Optimal diagnostic algorithm of various forms of lung cancer

Abstract

Aim. The aim of the study was to determine the possibilities of X-ray examination (X-ray) and computer tomography (CT) in the early diagnosis of various forms of lung cancer and their place in the algorithm.

Material and methods. 160 patients¢ archieves and current materials were used in research, they were examined by radiodiagnostic methods and histologically varified. Lung cancer is stated on 139 patients (peripheral lung cancer - 89 (55,6%), central lung cancer - 50 (31,3%) ).

Results. A comparison was made between the final diagnoses of the histological examination with the results of X-ray and CT examination of patients with benign and malignant processes in the lungs. According to the acquired results, for peripheral lung cancer sensitivity of X-ray (Se) is 69,7±8,0%, specificity (Sp) - 50,0±12,5% and total diagnostic value of test (TDV) - 63,3±6,9%; Se of CT is 88,8±3,3%, Sp -71,4±9,9% and TDV - 85,5±3,4%; for central lung cancer Se of X-ray is 84,4±4,4%, Sp - 50,0±12,5% and TDV - 78,0±4,6%; Se of CT is 96,0±2,8%, Sp - 71,4±9,9% and TDV - 88,7±3,8%.

Conclusions. Using this data, an algorithm for diagnosing lung tumors was determined. The described algorithm of diagnostic examination allows to speed up the diagnosis of the patient.
