Assesment of sleep apnoe syndrome based on adenoid tissue

Abstract

Purpose of the study. to create diagnostic algorithm, to analyze severity and to determine of treatment of snoring and obstructive sleep apnoe syndrome (OSAS).

Materials and methods. There were 844patients under our control. the age limit was between 3-15 years.437 of them were boys,  407 were girls. ENT endoscopic examination  have been applied to all patients.

Results. The question of survey which asked to parents were about being sleepy during the day, morning headaches, dryness in mouth, sleep apnoe and snoring. The different results were related  with localization of adenoid tissue. the results were really close during I and II types of adenoid tissue and according to 5,7±0,4 score I type, 6,04±0,7 score II type. But it was 9,4 ±0,2 score during III type.

Adenotomy and adenotonsillectomy operations were performed the patients symptoms with night sleep apnoe and snoring. The same questionnaire survey applied in Post-op periods. Snoring reports have been graded higher as 3,7±0,3 score.

Conclusion. Most of patients (parents) indicates the OSAS and snoring as the initial reason of heavy symptomatic disorders, the survey justified the indication of surgery,  enlightment of patients, correct analyse of somatic status and increase the quality of life of patients and families.
