Purpose of the study: To conduct a comparative analysis between different measurement methods of plaster models, performed manually using conventional and digital calipers, and their digital equivalents obtained by scanning the dental arches and calculated using the Dolphin Imaging software. The study was conducted on 30 plaster models of the upper and lower jaws of patients and their digital equivalents. Selection criteria included the presence of all permanent teeth from the first left to the first right molar on both the upper and lower jaws in patients aged 13-15 years. The material was divided into three groups: in the first group, measurements were taken using calipers (C); in the second group, digital calipers (DC) were used; and in the third group, the "Dolphin Imaging 11.9" software (DI) was applied. A statistically significant difference was found in the measurement of certain teeth, primarily the upper and lower incisors, as well as some premolars and molars. Correlation analysis of the AUAL parameter also revealed a positive correlation between DI and C (τ = 0.277; p = 0.039) and between D and DC (τ = 0.303; p = 0.019), while C correlated with DC (τ = 0.528; p < 0.001).
The use of the "Dolphin Imaging 11.9" software on digital models is the most accurate and reliable method for measuring jaw models. This method provides clinicians with precise and valuable information and eliminates the need for producing and storing plaster models over time, making it recommended for widespread use in orthodontic practice.
